A day-long training workshop on compost preparation was organized at the Kailati Agroecology Learning Center in Kailati village recently with the support of BARCIK. The workshop aimed to promote safe food production and protect soil health by encouraging organic farming practices among local farmers.
The workshop featured renowned farmer-researcher Golam Mostafa Modhu as the chief facilitator and keynote speaker. Other guests included Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Sanzida Khatun, farmer and caretaker of Darunbali Agroecology Learning Center Abul Kalam, and BARSIK officer Rokhsana Rumi.

During the training, Golam Mostafa Modhu provided detailed demonstrations on different methods of compost production, proper ingredient combinations, and the benefits of organic fertilizers. He also exchanged views with participating farmers and listened to their experiences and opinions.
He emphasized that excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is damaging soil fertility and polluting water, air, and the environment, while also increasing health risks through toxic food contamination. He mentioned that homemade compost fertilizer is an effective and eco-friendly alternative for sustainable and profitable farming.

Hands-on training sessions were conducted on vermicompost, quick compost, and pit compost preparation. Discussions were also held on the production and use of tricho-compost, liquid organic fertilizer, green manure, ash, and cow dung in organic farming.
Participating farmers shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of such training in producing pesticide-free crops. Enamul Haque Akash, caretaker and young farmer of the Kailati Agroecology Learning Center, said, “We want to spread environmentally friendly farming practices among local farmers and gradually build our village as a pesticide-free community.”
