A free health camp was organized in the urban marginal community of Baje Kajla, Rajshahi, to help low-income communitiess address growing health risks linked to climate change.
Organized by BARCIK, the “Free Health Camp for Urban Poor to Address Climate-Related Health Risks–2026” provided medical consultations, health advice and medicines to around 100 women, men, children and older people.
Dr. Jayanta Pramanik, MBBS, Department of Medicine, Rajshahi Medical College, provided medical consultations and advised participants on preventing climate-related illnesses. The discussions covered nutrition, safe drinking water, personal hygiene, heatwave protection and prevention of seasonal diseases.
Participants said that urban poor often delay seeking medical treatment because of financial constraints. They appreciated the free services and called for similar initiatives to be organized regularly.
The initiative aimed to increase awareness of climate-related health risks, improve access to primary healthcare and promote preventive health practices among urban poor communities.
BARCIK Youth Facilitator Atikur Rahman Atik, Associate Programme Officers Tohura Khatun Lily and Amit Sarkar, among others participated in the programme.
