Transform tree plantation into a social movement!

By S.M Osman Goni Sohag from Sathira

A unique tree walk and environmental protection pledge program was organized in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, to celebrate World Environment Day. The event was arranged by local people’s organizations, the Upazila Volunteer Association, and the Green Coalition with support from BARCIK.

The program began at A. Sobhan Secondary School in Ishwaripur, where participants highlighted the need to protect the environment and biodiversity in climate-vulnerable coastal areas. Speakers called for transforming tree plantation into a social movement.

More than one hundred participants joined a colorful tree walk carrying saplings of salt-tolerant fruit trees and placards promoting environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and a pollution-free world. The procession ended at the historic Jeshoreshwari Temple.

Following the walk, participants adopted trees and pledged to protect the environment, plant more trees, and conserve natural resources. Speakers emphasized that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and called for collective action to address climate change, reduce plastic pollution, and safeguard biodiversity.

Organizers said that such initiatives will continue to raise mass awareness and promote climate-resilient communities in coastal Bangladesh.
