By Tazim Rahman and Onabila Sarker from Netrakona

On the occasion of World Environment Day, BARCIK and the Netrakona Green Coalition organized an innovative “Tree Adoption” program under the slogan, “My Tree, My Responsibility.” The event was held beneath a century-old banyan tree in Netrakona town.

Twenty women, men, and children formally adopted trees through a pledge and agreement-signing ceremony. Participants displayed placards promoting environmental responsibility and tree care.

Fruit, timber, medicinal, and ornamental tree saplings were distributed among participants. Speakers said that, like children, trees require long-term care and nurturing. They said that tree adoption encourages not only planting but also a lasting sense of responsibility toward environmental conservation.

Environmentalist and BARCIK Regional Coordinator Md. Ohidur Rahman administered the pledge, while Green Coalition leaders highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and the importance of citizen participation in protecting nature.

Organizers stated that the initiative aims to foster environmental awareness and inspire the younger generation to take an active role in protecting the environment. The Green Coalition will monitor the adopted trees regularly to ensure their proper care.
