An eco-friendly agriculture training workshop was held recently at Thanatala village, organized by the Thanatala Indigenous Women’s Development Organization with support from BARCIK.

The training aimed to strengthen model homestead gardens to meet family nutrition needs through indigenous knowledge and organic farming practices. The training provided participants practical techniques such as vermicompost production, quick composting, liquid fertilizer preparation, Bordeaux mixture, and organic pest control using locally available medicinal plants.

Participant Pani Mardi (48) said, “The training helped me to understand the value of nearby plants in producing organic pesticides.” while Shyamoli Hansda said that the methods would reduce costs and improve health.

Women farmers pledged to adopt organic pest control and produce safe seasonal vegetables using natural methods, promoting food sovereignty, agroecology, and healthier rural livelihoods.
