Vermicompost improves soil and crop quality

A training session on the preparation and use of vermicompost was recently held at the home of farmer Lipi Begum in Patgramchar, Lechraganj Union, Harirampur Char area of Manikganj, organized with support from BARCIK. A total of 100 local farmers participated in the training.

The training featured discussions led by the Assistant Agricultural Officer of Harirampur and experienced farmer Hazera Begum of Patgramchar. Participating in the training the participants learned practical skills in organic farming, soil management, safe food production, and techniques for producing bio-pesticides and vermicompost.

Lipi Begum, a local farmer said, “Using organic fertilizers like cow dung and vermicompost improves crop quality and taste, enabling vegetables to reach the market faster while maintaining soil fertility.” Khaleda Begum from the Agroecology Learning Centre demonstrated practical training on vermicompost preparation and use.

BARSIK Program Officer Mukter Hossain explained the objectives of the training, while farmers Lipi Begum and Bacchu Sekh highlighted the benefits of organic fertilizers. The session concluded with participants sharing experiences from fields cultivated using vermicompost and organic fertilizers.
