By Nazrul Islam from Manikganj

World Consumer Rights Day was observed in Manikganj with the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers” recently. The event was jointly organized by BARCIK and Green Coalition.

An open discussion titled “Is the food on your plate safe?” brought together producers, traders, and consumers to discuss ensuring poison-free, safe crops. The session was chaired by Shakhawat Hossain, President of the cooperative, and moderated by Bimal Chandra Roy, Regional Coordinator of BARCIK.

Chief Guest Upazila Agriculture Officer Masum Bhuiya emphasized on the need for safe food production. Speakers, including CAB President ABM Shamsunnabi Tulip and others said, “We should not feed others what we would not eat ourselves.” They called for collective efforts to promote chemical-free farming for a healthier future.

A similar program was held in Madhya Putail Char, featuring discussions and an exhibition of uncultivated plants. Local women farmers highlighted their shift toward organic fertilizers and reducing chemical use, reaffirming their commitment to safe food production for future generations.
