Farmers of Chandradhinga village in Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrokona have taken a commendable cooperative initiative to sustain agricultural production on sandy soils. Eight farmers in the village have long been cultivating peanuts and maize on sandy land.
After selling their harvests, the farmers decided to form a joint savings fund to purchase seeds for future cultivation and reduce dependence on external sources. On 16 July 2025, the eight farmers collectively saved BDT 6,500 for this purpose.

As the suitable planting season for peanuts and maize began, the farmers used their savings to purchase peanut seeds. Based on individual contributions, a total of 26 kilograms of peanut seeds were fairly distributed among the eight farmers, ensuring timely cultivation on their respective plots.
With the aim to further strengthen this self-initiated effort, BARCIK provided additional support by distributing 10 kilograms of peanut seeds and 8 kilograms of maize seeds to the farmers. This assistance significantly reduced seed shortages and lowered production costs.

Farmers said that although farming on sandy soil is risky, collective initiatives, mutual cooperation, and support from development organizations like BARCIK have boosted their confidence. They believe that expanding this savings fund and seed management system will encourage more farmers in the village to participate.
Observers said that this cooperative initiative in Chandradhinga village will play an important role in strengthening agricultural self-reliance, food security, and sustainable livelihoods. It also stands as a positive example of agricultural development in border-adjacent and sandy soil–dominated areas.
