S.M. Osman Goni from Satkhira

A quarterly coordination meeting of the Green Coalition was held recently at the “Mangrove” conference hall in Satkhira town to discuss the district’s climate challenges, future plans, and coalition progress.

The meeting was chaired by Abu Affan Rooj Babu and moderated by S.M. Osman Goni, Campaign Facilitator of BARCIK. Environmental activists, teachers, journalists, and youth representatives participated.

Speakers at the event highlighted major climate risks facing Satkhira, including rising salinity, waste dumping in canals, biodiversity loss in the Sundarbans, river erosion, noise pollution, and safe drinking water scarcity. They stressed the need for stronger local adaptation, natural resource conservation, river and canal restoration, tree plantation, and public awareness initiatives.

The Coalition announced plans for climate awareness programs over the next three months, focusing on youth engagement, school discussions, women’s leadership, and policy dialogue on climate justice. Participants emphasized that active community involvement, alongside government and NGO efforts, is essential to building a climate-resilient Satkhira.

The meeting concluded with a call for collective action and well wishes for Coalition advisor and Prothom Alo correspondent Kalyan Banerjee and Professor Mozammel Hossain.
