Agroecology fair held in Manikganj

Manikganj correspondent

BARCIK, in collaboration with the Manikganj Green Coalition, organized an Agroecology Fair and Field Visit at the Manta field premises with support from local community organizations, including the Manta Women’s Organization and Joynagar Farmers’ Organization.

The event brought together representatives from the International Rice Research Institute, the Asian Development Bank, local government representatives, agricultural officials, youth and women’s organizations, and over one hundred local farmers.

The program included a field visit where participants observed local agricultural practices and discussed the impacts of climate change, sustainable farming systems, and the current condition of water flow in the Joynagar, Helachia, Ichamati, Kaliganga, and Dhaleshwari rivers. Community members highlighted that disrupted river flow and inadequate water management are affecting irrigation and threatening deep-water Aman rice cultivation and overall agricultural productivity in the region.
