To mark World Environment Day 2026, BARCIK, through its ENGAGE Project with support from the European Union (EU) and NETZ Bangladesh, organized a day-long campaign on environmental protection, climate adaptation, and environmental rights in Assasuni Upazila, Satkhira, on 8 July 2026.
The event brought together 119 participants (Male: 58; Female: 61), including government officials, civil society representatives, students, journalists, development practitioners, and community members.

The campaign began with a colorful rally along the main roads of Assasuni, carrying messages on environmental conservation, responsible resource use, and climate action. This was followed by an exhibition organized by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Student Forum members, showcasing local climate adaptation initiatives, environmental protection practices, and awareness materials on environmental rights.

An interactive discussion highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing climate change, protecting natural resources, and promoting environmental rights. The Chief Guest, Shyamananda Kundu, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Assasuni, called upon all citizens to take shared responsibility for protecting the environment and strengthening climate resilience. Representatives from various government departments and development organizations also emphasized the need for biodiversity conservation, access to safe water, reduced plastic pollution, and greater youth engagement.

A street theatre performance by Student Forum and CSO members creatively portrayed the impacts of climate change and the importance of community-led adaptation. The programme concluded with a pledge-signing ceremony, where participants committed themselves to protecting the environment and promoting environmental rights. A 26-member delegation from Pollisree, an NGO from the northern region of Bangladesh, also attended the event to exchange experiences and learn from the campaign activities.
The campaign strengthened collaboration among local stakeholders, enhanced public awareness of climate adaptation, and reinforced BARCIK’s commitment to building climate-resilient, environmentally sustainable communities while advancing environmental rights through community participation.
