To mark World Bee Day, a dialogue and human chain were organized recently at the Ghior Upazila Press Club premises arranged by BARCIK and the Green Coalition, demanding the protection of bees, pollinating insects, and biodiversity.

The event was chaired by Green Coalition Convener and freedom fighter Md. Shamsul Alam Khan. Distinguished writer and educator Professor Ajay Kumar Roy attended as the chief guest. Among others who spoke in the event include BARCIK Regional Coordinator Bimal Chandra Roy, Md. Nazrul Islam, Subir Kumar Sarkar, Ghior Press Club President Mohsin Hira, poet Delwar Hossain, social activists Syed Al Azad and Ataur Rahman Toha, and farmers Dipali Biswas and Renu Begum.

Participants emphasized the importance of protecting pollinators for sustainable agriculture and food production. They called upon everyone to reduce and eventually eliminate the excessive use of chemical pesticides, highlighting the slogan: “Say No to Harmful Pesticides, Protect Pollinators and Biodiversity.”

Recognizing that climate change and indiscriminate pesticide use are threatening beneficial insects and their habitats, participants submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) seeking stronger measures for pollinator conservation and habitat protection. Representatives of the Green Coalition, BARCIK, and environmental activists also held discussions with local agricultural officials on safeguarding ecosystems and promoting biodiversity-friendly farming practices.
