Community of Chandradinga village in Kalmakanda Upazila, Netrokona, celebrated World Environment Day through a series of activities promoting environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and climate action. The event was organized by the Chandradinga Embankment Protection Committee and Chandradinga Youth Organization with support from BARCIK.
The program brought together around 60 local farmers, women, and community members who expressed gratitude to nature and pledged to protect the environment for future generations. Participants reflected on lessons from nature and discussed ways to address the impacts of climate change through sustainable and community-led actions.

As part of the celebration, an environmentally friendly tree-planting campaign was conducted to strengthen and protect the local embankment area. Various species of saplings were also distributed among participants.
The discussion session, chaired by Sunil Mrong, President of the Chandradinga Embankment Protection Committee, focused on environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, climate justice, and community responsibilities. BARCIK Program Officer Md. Alamgir facilitated the session.
BARCIK Upazila Coordinator Gunjan Rema highlighted the significance of the day, noting that nature remains humanity’s greatest source of inspiration for sustainable living. Speakers emphasized that coexistence with nature, biodiversity conservation, and environment friendly lifestyles are essential for addressing the climate crisis.

Local women leader Benuka Mrong stressed the need for collective action by both women and men to protect the environment and biodiversity. Model farmer Parimal Rema highlighted the role of native seed conservation, agroecological farming practices, and tree planting in ensuring food security and climate resilience.
Chief Guest Bakul Master, poet, writer, and Head Teacher of Shingkata Government Primary School, stated that nature is humanity’s greatest teacher and that sustainable development is impossible without environmental protection. He called for tree planting, conservation of natural resources, and environmentally responsible behavior to become a social movement.
In his closing remarks, Sunil Mrong reaffirmed the community’s commitment to protecting the environment, local water bodies, and natural resources, emphasizing that safeguarding nature are essential for securing a sustainable future for all.
