Human Chain and Tree Plantation held in Manikganj

By Shahinur Rahman from Manikganj

On World Environment Day 2026, communities of Rasulpur-Nabagram in Singair Upazila, Manikganj, organized a human chain and tree plantation campaign under the theme “Inspired by Nature for Climate and Our Future.”

The event was jointly organized by the Union Green Coalition and local farmers’ organizations to raise awareness about environmental protection and climate justice. Community leaders, teachers, farmers, and civil society representatives participated in the discussion.

Speakers expressed concern over environmental degradation caused by unplanned development, deforestation, plastic pollution, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and the expansion of brick kilns on agricultural land. They emphasized the need to promote organic fertilizers, ecological pest management, and community-led conservation efforts.

Participants said that although local communities contribute little to climate change, they are among the most affected by its impacts. They called for strengthening local capacities to protect nature and adapt to climate risks.

As part of the campaign, 50 date palm saplings were planted along both sides of a local road. The program concluded with a commitment to work collectively for a safe, green, and livable planet for future generations.
