World Environment Day Observed on the Banks of the Dhaleshwari River

To mark World Environment Day, a rally, discussion session, and tree plantation program were organized on the banks of the Dhaleshwari River in Nayabari, Manikganj. The event was jointly organized by the Shahid Rafiq Youth Volunteer Organization, Farmers’ Organization, and Baira Union Green Coalition with support from BARCIK.

Members of the Green Coalition, youth and farmers’ organizations, teachers, students, and BARCIK staff participated in the program. Speakers of the event highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and community involvement in addressing climate change.

The discussants said that tree plantation is essential for maintaining ecological balance, mitigating climate change, and protecting wildlife and future generations. Participants also stressed the need to engage young people in environmental stewardship.

The program concluded with a rally carrying messages such as “Say No to Plastic, Protect the Environment” and “Plant Trees, Save Nature.” Fruit, timber, and medicinal trees were planted along the Dhaleshwari River and Ghoramara Canal.

Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge, BARCIK is a non-governmental non-profit development organization. Established in 1997 by a group of development practitioners, researchers and social workers, BARCIK has been working in the fields of environment and development with utmost commitment and purpose. Registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister’s Office, Government of Bangladesh, to operate foreign funds.
