Health Camp Held for urban poor in Rajshahi

By Tohura Khatun Lily, Rajshahi

A free healthcare camp was organized recently at the Bhadra Lake slum in Rajshahi with the aim of building a safe and livable city for all. A total of 122 poor residents, including women, men, and children, received free medical check-ups, medicines, and consultations. The camp was led by Dr. Jayanta Pramanik, MBBS (BCS Health), Rajshahi Medical College.

Khorshed Alam, Convener of the Urban Poor Rights Implementation Committee, said, “Ensuring healthcare for the urban poor is one of our top priorities. Such camps help them access primary medical care and essential advice, which contributes significantly to improving their quality of life.”

Bachu Mia, a resident of Namobhadra, expressed his gratitude saying, “BARCIK organized this free medical camp for us, and it really helped. I’ve been suffering from cough and knee pain for a long time. Going to the hospital costs money for transport and long waiting lines, but today I got treatment near home. I’m very thankful to BARCIK.” The free health camp has been highly appreciated as a much-needed and commendable initiative for the slum community.

It is to mention that due to unplanned urbanization and the effects of climate change, the health risks of the urban poor are increasing day by day. BARCIK arranged the health camp to ensure healthcare rights and provide basic medical services to slum dwellers.
