Government support brings hope to the poor community

By Ritu Robi Das from Manikganj

Sharmin Akter, a 35-year-old resident of Andharmanik municipality in Manikganj, has received new hope in her fight against a life-threatening kidney disease after receiving financial assistance from the Department of Social Services.

Sharmin, a mother of two sons, is married to a farmer and is an active member of the Andharmanik Women Development Association. For a long time, she has been battling kidney disease while struggling to manage the high cost of treatment.

Recently, she received a government grant of 50,000 taka allocated by the Department of Social Services to support the treatment of patients suffering from critical illnesses. She successfully withdrew the grant from her bank account this week.

However, Sharmin learned about the government support program through BARCIK, which has been working in the area for many years. After learning about the opportunity, she applied for financial assistance for her kidney treatment.

The cost of dialysis and medication had placed immense financial pressure on Sharmin and her family. The government grant has come as a major relief during this difficult time.

The withdrawn funds will now be used to cover her regular dialysis sessions, essential medicines, and other medical expenses.

Sharmin expressed her gratitude for the support, saying, “This money is very important for my treatment. Receiving the assistance at the right time has given me great relief and hope.”

Local people have also welcomed the initiative, saying that the assistance was transferred directly to her bank account without any intermediaries, reflecting transparency in the government’s digital service system.

Despite her health challenges, Sharmin remains determined to recover and return to a normal life. As a mother and a fighter, she continues to face her illness with courage and hope. Community members are hopeful that with proper treatment and support, Sharmin will recover soon and regain her strength to lead a healthy life once again.
