An information-sharing workshop was held in Jamalpur slum, Rajshahi, to link marginalized urban residents with income-generating and vocational training opportunities offered by UCEP Bangladesh. Participants from Jamalpur and Namovodra slums participated in the event.
The workshop was attended by Jannatul Ferdous, Officer of UCEP Bangladesh, Tohura Khatun Lily, Associate Programme Officer of BARCIK, and Nilufa Ismat Ara, Member Secretary of the Urban Poor Rights Implementation Committee.
Participants learned about UCEP’s vocational training programmes, including eligibility criteria, admission procedures, training duration, employment prospects, and opportunities for self-employment. The session also provided an opportunity for the participants to ask questions and share their views.
Asma Begum, a participant, said, “We knew very little about these training opportunities before. Now we understand how to enroll and what benefits they offer. If young people from our community receive this training, they will gain skills and become financially independent.”
The workshop emphasized that vocational skills training creates employment opportunities and strengthens confidence and promotes sustainable livelihoods. Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to connecting more women and youth from low-income communities with such programmes.
