A youth workshop on Agroecology, Climate Justice, and Food Sovereignty was held recently at the Agroecology Learning Centre in Bil Nepalpara, Paba Upazila. The event was jointly organized by Bil Nepalpara Tarun Swapna Jatra Organization and BARCIK.

BARCIK Programme Officer Md. Touhidul Islam saidagroecology as a science-based, environmental sustainable farming approach that protects soil, water, biodiversity, and human well-being while promoting safe food production, local knowledge, indigenous seed conservation, and organic farming.

Participants discussed the growing role of youth in addressing climate change through sustainable agriculture. The workshop introduced practical concepts on agroecology, food sovereignty, climate justice, biodiversity conservation, organic fertilizer use, and fair market systems.

Young participants expressed that the training increased their interest in environmentally friendly farming and agricultural entrepreneurship, particularly through local seed conservation and sustainable production methods. They also emphasized the importance of women’s participation and innovation in building climate-resilient agriculture.

The workshop concluded with a commitment from participants to promote agroecological farming, strengthen climate awareness, conserve biodiversity, and advance food sovereignty in their respective communities.
