BARCIK organized a workshop at its Rajshahi Resource Centre to raise awareness of climate change impacts on urban communities and explore community-led adaptation strategies. Representatives from 14 informal slum areas across Rajshahi city participated in the event.
The workshop featured discussions on climate change, its causes, the influence of El Niño, and the growing impacts on low-income urban communities. Participants also explored ways to strengthen climate resilience through community action and inclusive urban planning.
Through group discussions, participants identified key local challenges, including extreme heat, waterlogging, inadequate drinking water, poor sanitation, housing shortages, waste management, and the need for increased urban greenery. They also proposed practical solutions based on their experiences.
Speakers emphasized that meaningful participation of marginalized urban residents is essential for building a climate-resilient, inclusive, and livable city.
