Green Coalition Satkhira District committee formed

A new committee of the Green Coalition Satkhira District Unit has been formed with the objective of raising awareness and building a social movement to protect the natural environment, agro-ecosystems, biodiversity, and ensure climate justice in the region.

The committee was formed during a workshop held recently at the Mangrove Conference Hall in Satkhira. The event was organized by BARCIK with support from the Agroecology Fund. In the first session of the workshop, Azad Hossain Belal, convener of the Satkhira District Citizens’ Committee, presided over the discussion.

Speakers who spoke in the event included Professor Mozammel Hossain, convener of the Pran Sair Canal Protection Movement; Principal Ashek-e-Elahi, convener of the Save Adi Jamuna Movement; civic leader Professor Pabitra Mohan Das; TIB-Satkhira President Taiyab Hasan Babu; senior journalist Kalyan Banerjee; environmental and human rights activist Madhab Chandra Dutta; cultural personality Abu Affan Roz Babu; women leader Farida Akhter Beauty; youth representative S.M. Biplob Hossain; Hriday Mondal and others.

The speakers spoke about the need for a united social movement to protect the natural environment, promote agroecology, ensure food sovereignty, and establish climate justice.

Later, through unanimous consent, the committee and advisory council of the Green Coalition Satkhira District Unit were formed.
