Exchange visit explores new horizons in Agroecology

Ten farmers from five villages in Burigoalini Union participated in a learning exchange visit to the Agroecology Learning Centres at Srifalkati and Dhumghat in Ishwaripur Union to enhance their knowledge of sustainable and climate-resilient farming.

During the visit, participants explored demonstration plots, community seed banks, and agricultural innovations. They learned about the collection, conservation, and exchange of indigenous seeds adapted to local environmental and climatic conditions.

The farmers also received practical training in vermicompost production, organic pesticide preparation, and other eco-friendly farming techniques as sustainable alternatives to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. They observed improved vegetable cultivation methods, biodiversity conservation practices, and the role of beneficial insects in maintaining healthy farming ecosystems.

The exchange provided practical insights into adapting agriculture to climate challenges such as salinity, drought, and erratic weather. Participants expressed their commitment to promoting indigenous seed conservation, organic farming, and agroecological practices in their own communities and sharing the knowledge with fellow farmers.

The visit strengthened farmers’ knowledge, skills, and confidence, reinforcing the importance of agroecology, food sovereignty, biodiversity conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture for sustainable rural development.
