A human chain was organized in front of Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park recently to demand effective waste management and a cleaner urban environment in Satkhira. The programme was jointly organized by BARCIK and the Education, Culture and Diversity Protection Team.
Participants of the human chain displayed placards carrying messages promoting environmental cleanliness, pollution-free communities, and sustainable urban development.
Speakers expressed concern that inadequate waste management has turned many parts of the town into dumping grounds. Poor drainage systems, waterlogging during rainfall, the absence of designated waste disposal sites, and the lack of a dumping station have worsened the situation.
They warned that despite being a first-class municipality, Satkhira’s civic services remain inadequate and could make the town increasingly unsuitable for habitation if immediate action is not taken.
The human chain called for designated waste disposal areas, improved drainage infrastructure, and the establishment of a modern dumping station to ensure proper waste management and a cleaner, healthier city.
