Marking Global Climate Week, farmers, youth, women, and environmental activists in Satkhira staged a climate strike recently to demand immediate action from world leaders.
Holding placards, the demonstrators gathered on a road in Pankhali village, Burigoalini, on Wednesday morning. The event was organized by the Green Coalition with support from BARCIK.
In the event, participants highlighted the severe crisis facing coastal agriculture, fisheries, and livelihoods due to the adverse effects of climate change. They said that the program was organized to amplify public voices at national and international levels.
One of the participants said, “Their participation has strengthened our movement, and we have successfully drawn the attention of the media and local administration”.
BARCIK Program Officer Biswajit Mondol said, “Such collective initiatives will effectively influence future policymaking and open avenues for integrating local voices into global discourse.”
