A youth workshop on gender and diversity was held recently at the BARCIK Singair Resource Center with the slogan “The indomitable power of youth, the liberation of women.” The event brought together representatives from various youth and adolescent organizations in Singair. The workshop was organized by BARCIK, a development research organization.

A total of 25 youth representatives from Singair participated in the day-long session. BARCIK staff members Rina Akter, Md. Nazrul Islam, Asiya Akter, and Shahinur Rahman facilitated the program.

Discussions focused on the concept of gender, with participant Mamun Hossain said, “Gender is a social identity present in us from birth. Both men and women are human beings, and no one should face discrimination based on roles or tasks.”

In a session on diversity, facilitator Shahinur Rahman said, “Diversity is the union of differences, be it profession, age, or culture. Diversity builds interdependence, and women play a crucial role in protecting this diversity.”

The workshop concluded with group exercises highlighting the roles of men and women in family, society, and the state, and with participants identifying practical steps to reduce discrimination in society.

Earlier, the workshop began with a patriotic song sung collectively by participants, followed by an interactive introduction session. Participants then shared their expectations on sticky notes, which were compiled in the shape of a tree to symbolize collective learning.
