With the view to promote environmental consciousness and create a green campus, a tree plantation program was recently held at the Netrokona Collectorate School, jointly organized by the ‘Green Coalition Committee’ of Netrokona and the school’s teachers and students, with support from BARCIK.

With the slogan “Protect Life, Nature, Environment, Forests, Wildlife, and Wetlands,” various saplings including fruit-bearing, medicinal, and ornamental plants such as neem, jamun, bougainvillea, arjun, madhabilata, beli, rangan, krishnachura, and radhachura were planted on the school campus.
Amolendu Krishna Sarkar, Head Teacher of the Collectorate School and President of the Green Coalition Committee, Sohrab Uddin Akand, teachers, students, and BARCIK representatives Khadija Akter Lita and Rukhsana Rumi were present in the event and shared their concerns and views.
Speaking at the event, Amolendu Krishna Sarkar stated, “Trees play a vital role in maintaining environmental balance. They help reduce air pollution, prevent soil erosion, and preserve biodiversity.’ ‘A green campus creates a healthy and beautiful environment for students and supports their mental and physical well-being. It also offers students hands-on learning about trees and the environment, encouraging respect for nature” he added.

Researcher Sohrab Uddin Akand said, “A green campus raises awareness among students about environmental conservation and inspires them to take action. It is important to choose trees that are suitable with the local environment’. He went on saying, ‘Preferably native species that can easily adapt to environment. Tree plantation is a sustainable and effective step not just for beautifying a campus but also for creating a healthy and eco-friendly atmosphere.”
As part of the initiative, each student was assigned the responsibility of nurturing one planted sapling, encouraging personal commitment and care for the environment.
