Formation of Green Coalition Union Committee in Burigoalini, Shyamnagar

A meeting to review progress and plan activities of Green Coalition was held at the BARCIK Shyamnagar Resource Centre in Burigoalini Union recently. The meeting was arranged jointly by  Green Coalition and BARCIK, chaired by freedom fighter Dr. Nirapad Bain and moderated by BARCIK’s programme officer Monika Paik. Local representatives, forest dwellers, and community members participated in the meeting and shared their views.

Ramkrishna Jowardar, BARCIK’s Coastal Regional Coordinator, presented the keynote, emphasizing the need for collective volunteer action for environmental and community development, beyond reliance on NGOs or elected representatives alone.

The meeting unanimously formed an 11-member executive committee and a 3-member advisory council for Green Coalition in Burigoalini Union. Master Mohsin Billah was elected President, with Tapas Mistri and Shefali Bibi as Vice-Presidents, Dilip Maji as General Secretary, and others in key roles. Advisory members include Panel Chairman Md. Abdur Rouf Gazi, UP Member Machura Parveen, and Dr. Nirapad Bain.

Committee leaders pledged to work voluntarily to identify and address local issues, involving marginalized and professional groups to ensure inclusive problem-solving.

BARCIK officials Bishwajit Mondal, Champa Mallik, and youth organiser S.M. Osman Gani also attended.

Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge, BARCIK is a non-governmental non-profit development organization. Established in 1997 by a group of development practitioners, researchers and social workers, BARCIK has been working in the fields of environment and development with utmost commitment and purpose. Registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister’s Office, Government of Bangladesh, to operate foreign funds.
