A training titled “Agroecology, Climate Justice, and Food Sovereignty” was held recently at Rameshwarpur Agroecology Learning Center. The workshop aimed to increase farmers’ interest in sustainable environment-friendly agriculture, encourage safe food production, and build connections with services provided by the Department of Agriculture.
Members of the management committee of the Rameshwarpur Agroecology Learning Center, local Union Parishod member Md. Jewel Mia, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of the Department of Agricultural Extension Monowar Hossain, and BARCIK officer Md. Ohidur Rahman were present in the meeting.
During the event, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Monowar Hossain said, “We must adopt eco-friendly practices more and more. I will extend all kinds of support and cooperation to implement this initiative.”
Highlighting the importance of agroecology, Md. Sayed Ahmed Khan Bacchu, supervisor of the Learning Center, said, “This practice protects our environment and nature. If we can keep the soil and air healthy, we too will remain healthy. This practice reduces costs, provides us with safe food, and creates a favorable environment for all living beings from soil microbes to the biodiversity around us. That is why we all must work collectively.”
BARCIK officer Md. Ohidur Rahman said, “We must come together through traditional practices and work collectively to create a path toward green development.”
At the end of the program, local UP member Jewel Mia gifted the participating farmers the necessary materials for preserving local seeds and distributed neem saplings to each farmer.
