Training workshop on agroecology and climate justice held in Manikgonj

A training workshop on agroecology, climate justice, and food sovereignty was recently organized by BARCIK in Ramdia Nali village under Nali Union of Ghior Upazila, Manikganj. The event took place at the home of Shatobari farmer Aklima Begum and 28 farmers and youths from Nali, Dhalai, and Kunduria villages, including members of the local social organization “Alor Poth” participated and shared their views.

BARCIK official Subir Kumar Sarkar and research assistant Shyamael Hasda facilitated the training. They discussed the concept of agroecology, its benefits through local practices, and methods of identifying and utilizing natural, social, and economic resources effectively.

The facilitators emphasized the importance of agroecology in preserving biodiversity, applying indigenous knowledge in sustainable food production, the use and conservation of native seeds, and the role of organic fertilizers in maintaining soil health.

Participants, including Seema, Smriti, Kamona, Imran, and Joy, shared their insights and experiences. They expressed that such training, and practices, is applicable to real life and will significantly contribute to sustainable agricultural development.

At the end of the workshop, a seven-member convening committee was formed with participating youths and farmers.
