BARCIK organized a training workshop on communication and outcome documentation at its Shyamnagar Resource Centre recently. The initiative aimed to enhance staff capacity in effectively communicating their work and documenting field experiences.
Silvanus Lamin, Director of Knowledge Management & Communication at BARCIK and a former student of the Mass Communication & Journalism Department of Dhaka University, facilitated the session. He said, “If you cannot communicate properly, many good things are lost. Communication is not just about exchanging messages; it is a strategy for building understanding and relationships.”
The workshop was inaugurated by Associate Regional Coordinator Ramkrishna Joarder saying “Effective communication and accurate documentation are essential to reflect the quality of our work. This training is an opportunity to share, learn, and strengthen our collective practices.”

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Lamin covered modern communication strategies, methods of information exchange, and effective documentation techniques. The session was interactive, with participants actively engaging in question and answer sessions to clarify key concepts, making the training lively and practical.
In the afternoon, participants engaged in a group exercise where they created statements based on real field experiences around the theme of “outcome documentation.” Each group presented their outcomes and received feedback, further enriching the learning environment.
Barsha Gain, a participant, reflected, “The group work helped us build our analytical thinking, teamwork, and confidence in expressing our ideas.”

At the closing session, urban program expert Md. Zahangir Alam remarked, “Our field colleagues are doing great work, but unless it is communicated and documented well, the impact is diminished. Communication and documentation are not just technical tasks; they reflect our mindset. Integrating this attitude into daily work will enhance our effectiveness.”
Participants like Biswajit Mondal shared that the training provided practical insights applicable to real-life work and expressed hope for more such sessions in the future.

A total of 25 staff members, including representatives from BARCIK’s urban and agroecology teams and staffs of PORIBESH project attended the workshop. Through writing exercises, real-case examples, and open discussions, the event contributed significantly to strengthening internal capacity as part of BARCIK’s ongoing organizational development efforts.
