A training on Agroecology, Climate Justice, and Food Sovereignty was organized by the Green Coalition Committee at Baniajuri Union Ganakendra Library in Ghior, Manikganj recently. Youth organizations, social volunteers, government and non-government representatives, family planning inspectors, journalists, farmers’ organizations, and local farmers participated in the training. The session was facilitated by BARCIK’s regional coordinator, Bimal Chandra Roy.
Representatives from various organizations attended, including Md. Akash and Shamim Mia (Alor Poth Youth Organization), Md. Moin Biswas and Manjurul Islam Montu (Poet-Literary Organization), drama director and social worker Gini Alam, cultural activist and social worker Atowar Rahman Toha, MyTV journalist Md. Mohsin Khan Hira, agricultural officers Biplob Kumar Sarkar and Mukta Akter, family planning inspector Khandakar Monowar Hossain, Gangdubi Farmers’ Association president Prafulla Mondal, farmer-researcher Md. Emdadul Haque, women farmers Beauty Akter, Rojina Begum, Durga Rajbangshi, Alo Rajbangshi, Alpana Rani Sarkar, Yasmin Akter, along with Green Coalition joint convener Prodip Kumar Sarkar, BARCIK officials Subir Kumar Sarkar and Shayamel Hasda, among others.
At the end of the event, a three-month action plan was adopted to practice agroecology and produce safe food. The Ghior Green Coalition also committed to planting 100 fruit, timber, and medicinal trees in Baniajuri Union, including areas near ponds, cemeteries, and Tara Primary School. Joint convener Prodip Kumar Sarkar remarked: “Green Coalition will unite concerned individuals, organizations, and people from different professions at village, regional, and national levels to protect our environment and ecology.”
