Green Coalition’s role to protecting nature and life

A union-level review and planning meeting of the Green Coalition initiative was held on recently in the Agroecology Learning Center (ALC) of Loknath Mondal in Jelekhali village, Munshiganj Union, Shyamnagar. The event was jointly organized by BARCIK and Upazila Green Coaltion.

Presided over by KM Ashraf Hossain, Head Teacher of Mathurapur Government Primary School, the meeting was attended by members of Green Coalition, farmers, representatives from local government, youth organizers, and BARCIK officials.
The session began with a welcome speech from regional coordinator Ramkrishna Jowarder, who outlined BARCIK’s programs and the purpose and goals of forming Green Coalition. Joint convener Piyush Baulia Pintu discussed about the group’s journey, key activities, and its role in safeguarding the biodiversity and cultural heritage of coastal areas.

Participants emphasized the need to strengthen the platform, form union-level committees, and identify local issues such as fish depletion, waterlogging, river encroachment, and plastic pollution. They called for a comprehensive action plan to tackle these problems.
The meeting concluded with the formation of an 11-member executive committee for Munshiganj Union, with Dr. Jogesh Mondal as president and Madhusudhan Mondal as general secretary. Participants expressed hope that Green Coalition would continue to play a significant role in protecting the life, nature, and culture of the coastal region.
