Green Coalition demands Protection of Nature and Wildlife Including Weaver Birds

A protest rally was held in the courtyard of Netrakona Press Club against the destruction of weaver birds’ nests and violence toward nature, forests, wildlife, hills, and wetlands. The event was organized by Netrakona Green Coalition and the Education-Culture-Environment and Diversity Protection Committee, with support from BARCIK.
Environmental activists, journalists, writers, social workers, cultural activists, youth, students, renowned persons participated in the rally and shared their views.

The event was moderated by Alpana Begum, General Secretary of the Education-Culture-Environment and Diversity Protection Committee and Netrakona district correspondent for Somoy TV and Bangladesh Pratidin where M. Kibria Helim Chowdhury. General Secretary of Netrakona Press Club; veteran journalist Shyamlendu Pal; Tanvir Jahan Chowdhury from Save Nature Movement; cultural activist Jewel Rana; Mirza Hriday Sagar, General Secretary of Green Coalition; Md. Ohidur Rahman, Regional Coordinator of BARCIK; and Konak Pandit from Haor Bachao Andolon spoke.

Speakers condemned the recent destruction of weaver bird nests, chicks, and palm trees in Purbaguat, Jhalokathi, and highlighted the growing violence nationwide against rivers, forests, hills, wildlife, and wetlands. They blamed human greed and unplanned development for environmental destruction and the loss of biodiversity in the haor regions.
