By Mukter Hossain from Harirampur, Manikganj

With the facilitation support from BARCIK fruit tree plantation event was held recently in the char region of Harirampur upazila under Manikganj district. The event involved distribution and plantation of fruit tree saplings among local farmers and other interested groups of people.

As part of the program, 40 families received saplings of guava, monkey jack, arjun, and custard apple trees. Organizers emphasized the role of homegrown fruit trees in meeting family nutrition needs and enhancing ecological balance.

Lecharaganj Union Parishad Ward-5 member Shahin Molla, former UP (Union Parishod) member and member of the Manikganj Agricultural Development Committee Shahid Molla, Khaleda Begum from the Agroecology Learning Center, Lipi Begum from Shotobari Farmers’ Network, and BARCIK’s program officer Mukter Hossain participated in the event and shared their views on fruit tree plantation.

The discussants in the event said that the Harirampur char areas face severe erosion every year, leading to the loss of agricultural land, homes, and vegetation. In this context, planting trees in the region is both essential and urgent. “The monsoon season is the perfect time to green our homesteads.
