With the slogan “If we become blood donors, we shall win humanity,” a free blood group testing camp was organized in Hetalkhali, Shyamnagar, of Satkhira. Hetalkhali Voluntary Blood Donation Organization with the support of BARCIK organized the program recently. Students, farmers, fishermen, day laborers, and homemakers participated in the event and get their blood group checked.
During the day-long event, blood groups of 138 coastal residents were identified. Organizers mentioned that participants’ names, addresses, and blood group details were recorded to ensure quick access to donors in future emergencies.
The camp was presided over by Dr. Md. Habibullah, Director of Hetalkhali Voluntary Blood Donation Organization. BARCIK’s acting regional coordinator Ramkrishna Jowardar, youth organizer S.M. Osman Goni; Director of Utsorgo Society Gazir Abdur Rouf, Director of Shyamnagar Blood Bank, Executive Director of SHORUB Md. Saifuddin Siddique, S.M. Jannatul Naeem, and Abdullah Al Mamun, Community Facilitator of BARCIK participated as guests of the event.
Md. Mikael Hossain, Vice-President of the host organization, said, “In coastal areas, it is often difficult to collect blood during accidents or sudden illness. Through this camp, we want to raise awareness on the importance of blood donation and build a system for quick blood supply.”
Local homemaker Rahima Bibi expressed her satisfaction, saying, “None of my family members ever knew their blood group. Now that we know, it feels good to think we could help others in need.”
School student Md. Masum Billah said, “We studied the importance of blood donation in books, but initiatives like this inspire us to practice it in real life.”
Senior citizen villager Abdur Razzak shared, “In our area, people often suffer after accidents due to lack of blood. Today I learned my group, and now I know I too can save a life.”
Ramkrishna Jowardar of BARCIK said, “Healthcare services are limited in coastal areas. Such initiatives will help to create a local blood donor network, which will play a vital role in saving lives in the future.”
