A Healing Touch for the Urban Poor in Satkhira
By Gazi Mahida Mizan, from Satkhira
In the objective to support the health of low-income urban poor, a free healthcare camp was organized in Kamalnagar Malekpara, Satkhira, by BARCIK, Satkhira Digital Hospital, and media partner Khoborer Kagoj.
More than 100 urban poor people received free medical check-ups, medicines, and nutrition counseling, with care provided by medicine specialist Dr. Pradipon Kumar and paramedics.

These urban poor living in slum areas, displaced by the harsh impacts of climate change, lost their homes in rural areas and now live under dire conditions in the city. Amid extreme heatwaves, their health and livelihoods are severely affected, often pushing them deeper into poverty. This initiative aimed to ease their burden and enhance resilience against climate-induced health crises.
The eventwas escorted by BARCIK Program Officer Gazi Mahida Mizan, youth organizer Jahangir Alam, Mujahidul Islam from Digital Hospital, and volunteers from Khaborer Kagoj and the Education, Culture & Diversity Team.
A beneficiary, Beauty Khatun, said, “This service helped us a lot. Such programs must continue, both by the government and private efforts.”

Volunteer Brishti said, “The health of children, both physical and mental, is under threat due to pollution and limited access to care. This initiative brings them some relief. We will continue working for their well-being.”
Gazi Mahida Mizan shared the objective of the program saying, “Our objective is to stand by the urban poor and ensure they receive basic healthcare, especially women and children. It is our civic responsibility.”
