Youth Workshop on Agroecology and Food Sovereignty Held in Netrakona
By Gunjon Rema from Kalmakanda Netrakona
A day-long youth training workshop on Agroecology and Food Sovereignty was organized by BARCIK in the village of Tarangor under Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona district recently. The workshop brought together 25 young participants both men and women from three different unions, aiming to build awareness and enhance skills on agroecology and food sovereignty.

Gunjon Rema, BARCIK’s upazila coordinator, delivered a key session on agroecology, highlighting its significance saying, “Agroecology is an effective approach that helps us understand the interrelationship between local farming practices and the environment,” she explained. “In the context of climate change, it is essential for ensuring sustainable agriculture.”
Alpona Nafak, a field facilitator from BARCIK, led the discussion on food sovereignty. She emphasized the importance of community control over food production, distribution, and consumption, stating, “True food security can only be achieved when we build and manage our own local food systems.”

Munna Rongdi, another field facilitator from BARCIK, addressed issues related to safe food and food security. She encouraged the youth to be mindful in choosing nutritious foods, understand safe production methods, and be aware of their food rights.
The young participants actively engaged in group activities, experience-sharing, and interactive open discussion. Many expressed that the workshop connected deeply with their real-life experiences and inspired them to contribute to positive social and environmental change in the future.
