BARCIK continues to make significant contributions to improving the livelihoods, skills, and employment opportunities of the urban poor. As part of its ongoing initiatives, seven women from the Namobhadra and Baje Kazla areas of Rajshahi have recently enrolled in sewing and machine shop training programs conducted by UCEP (Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programs).

Through awareness sessions and community engagement, BARCIK introduced these training opportunities to the local women. In two sessions held in April and May in Namobhadra, five women joined the sewing training: Kajoli Akter (19), Akhi (22), Nazni Khatun (21), Khushi Khatun (19), and Nishat Begum (21). They are currently receiving hands-on training free of cost, with the goal of becoming self-reliant tailors.
Similarly, after two sessions in Baje Kazla in April, three women namely Rabeya Sultana (33), Ruma (24), and Suma Khatun (25) enrolled in UCEP’s four-month Machine Shop Practice training. The program includes travel allowances, practical training, and potential job placement after completion.

Trainee Kajoli Akter shared, “I learned about UCEP through a BARCIK meeting. Now I am receiving free sewing training and learning hands-on skills. I hope to earn from home in the future.” This initiative not only provides technical skills but also enhances the women’s self-confidence and social acceptance.
This initiative proves that with proper guidance, training, and opportunity, urban poor women can confidently integrate into mainstream society and BARCIK remains a steadfast companion in their journey for empowerment.
